Adaptive Training provides a unique and innovative alternative to
traditional Computer Managed Instruction (CMI) systems. Adaptive Training
focuses on individualized learning. It dynamically adapts each CBT lesson
to meet each user’s unique needs in key skill areas. The user’s
understanding of each topic is assessed in real time, while he is viewing
the CBT, and appropriate training material is triggered. The CBT becomes
dynamic. It adapts itself to each specific user. Training effectiveness is
maximized by providing the right training at the right time. Adaptive
Training goes one step further than typical CMI progress monitoring. It
includes statistical skill assessment. Each user’s responses and
training history combine to provide an in-depth assessment profile which
provides the visibility managers need for personnel assessment. Assessment
is at the topic or skill level so that managers can see which topics a
user understands and has meet satisfactorily versus topic areas where
further reinforcement is required.
Unlike other CMI systems, Adaptive Training acts as a service provider
to the CBT package. It’s services can be invoked by the CBT package
wherever, however, and as often as required to meet the training needs of
the CBT design. In addition, the CBT developer is free to define the user
interface to meet training needs rather than that of a management system.
Adapts the presentation of CBT material to meet the needs of each
specific user based on skill assessment. Adaptive Training provides a
dynamic learning environment which facilitates personalized learning,
topic level remedial training, and advanced accelerated
learning.
Provides full data collection. A database of user profiles is
automatically maintained which contains the user’s training history
and skill assessment in specific topic areas.
Provides users with the ability to monitor their own progress and
access to their own training profile.
Provides managers with visibility into personnel performance and
skill level. Statistical analysis and reporting can be performed at
any time.
Provides analysis of CBT training effectiveness at the individual
and group level. Identify training material problem areas immediately
for improvement of the CBT training material itself.
Supports multi-user and single user environments. The database can
be centralized or stand-alone.
The client-server architecture allows Adaptive Training to be used
by virtually any CBT development system.
The runtime algorithms are contained in a Windows Dynamic Link
Library (DLL). It is available in both 16 and 32-bit versions. In the
Authorware 4 environment, it is a 32-bit User Code Document (UCD). In
the AIMSS Interactive Electronic Technical Manual environment, it is a
16-bit DLL and is integrated using the Class V Template feature.
Adaptive Training can be implemented on either standalone PCs, or as
a part of a centralized system (LAN, WAN), or in any combination.
The Adaptive Training runtime is free. Runtime versions exist for the
Authorware 4 32-bit environment, AIMSS 16-bit environment, and any DLL or
OLE/Active X product.
The development system can be purchased for $1,500. It runs on the
Windows 95/NT platform. The package includes the development system
software, runtime software, documentation, and examples. Training courses,
program and special project licenses are available.
