Prognostics Framework

The US Army contract is funding a Phase III Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) through NASA that is for the development and application of a Prognostics Framework.  The Prognostics Framework is an expansion of the Diagnostician into Prognostics. Here, the Diagnostician reads parametric sensor and Built-in Test (BIT) data over time, and based upon either historical data, engineering correlations (algorithms) related to degradation, or inputs from a prognostic mechanism, such as a neural network, provides indications of when a failure is likely to occur. Here, we are expanding the model-base and associated reasoning to incorporate parametric analysis of sensor, BIT, and other data to provide prognostic reasoning across major Army platforms. This is integrated with diagnostic reasoning to provide a "health management subsystem" that provides key mission readiness and maintenance requirement information to 1) battlefield commanders, 2) system operators/crew and 3) maintenance technicians. The Prognostics Framework is generically applicable to any system.
